Food Festival Weekend 2011 - Vendy Awards and Epicurean Palate

This weekend was a weekend of eating for me. I attended the Vendy Awards on Saturday and the Epicurean Palate on Sunday. I have tasted my fair share of street food and gourmet delights. I have also had my fair share of delicious wines and beers!

To recap, the Vendy Awards is a competition between the top food vendors in NYC plus it's 5 boroughs and NJ! In total 20 vendors gathered on governor's island to throw down and compete for the Vendy Cup. Aside from being a gluttonous way to spend your Saturday, all proceeds to go to the Vendor Project, a non-profit organization that helps provide legal advice and consultation to street vendors all over the city. I'm going to follow up with my own pictures and commentary on all of the things I tasted but for a complete recap of the challenges and street vendors, check out Serious Eat's awesome recap:http://newyork.seriouseats.com/2011/09/a-look-at-the-2011-vendy-awards.html

The Epicurean Palate is a culinary event held at the Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ. This is also a fundraiser with half of all proceeds going towards the Grounds for Sculpture. If you haven't been, it's a beautiful park featuring sculptures from various artists. This event features local restaurants and caterers showcasing their best. I noticed this year, a lot of the restaurants featured a pulled pork. I will follow up with my own pictures and commentary but you can also see the restaurants featured here: http://www.epicureanpalette.org/Default.aspx

Stay Tuned!
