I've lived in Britain for four months and have experienced the sunday roast three times.  Although one of those times was prior to moving here, so I don't know if that counts.  Regardless, this is a meal that does not mess around.  I have to prepare myself (physically and mentally) to conquer the sunday roast...because it's simply the most ridiculous amount of food on one plate I've ever seen, and the best part is that it's perfectly normal and people have been eating it for hundreds of years.

Round 1: Roast at Horseshoe in Hampstead... my very first yorkshire pudding.  I loved this meal and still think about it.  The yorkshire pudding was heavenly.

Round 2: Roast at Holly Bush... also in Hampstead.  This was also good, and instead of beef we got the roasted lamb shoulder.  The atmosphere of this pub was the best part.

Though the highlight of this meal was most definitely the scotch egg.  I mean, it's a hardboiled egg wrapped in meat and fried... pure culinary genius.

Round 3: Hawksmoor - Seven Dials.  The food itself made this the best sunday roast I've had.  The steak was juicy and flavorful, the potatoes were soft on the inside and crusty on the outside.

To go alongside this, we got two appetizers that were amazing.  The roast bone marrow with caramelized onions, and the potted mackerel.

Hawksmoor wins the sunday roast.  Next time I'll conquer their famous burger.
