Too good to talk at Song Que

I've ended up moving to an area of London that's right next to a bunch of Vietnamese restaurants.

Everyone was getting the beef pho, which is one of their specialties and of course a staple of all Vietnamese food.  But given the unseasonably warm weather, I craved something else.

What's the opposite of a hot beefy noodle soup?  Spring rolls!!! Wonderfully fresh and filled with big fat pieces of prawns, and a spicy dipping sauce.

We got another appetizer of minced beef wrapped in betel leaves and grilled.  It came with fresh mint, betel leaves, lettuce and vermicelli noodles.....which happens to be perfect for making lettuce wraps.

Next we got a crispy fried sea bream topped with fresh ginger and fish sauce.  I will forever be fascinated by fish sauce and I give so much credit to the first person who said....."hmmm, this sauce smells like feet, but I think I'll put it in my food and it will wow the world!"  I am wowed.  And I have learned as I write this that sea bream is a white firm fish.

Lastly, the scallops with mushrooms and bamboo shoots...perfection.
